Certainly, both locals and tourists cannot get enough of this quintessential Asturian drink - hard, dry apple cider, ceremoniously poured from a bottle held overhead into wide-mouthed glasses. Asturian sidra is a definite must for anyone, especially since it s claimed to be the best in the world!
The region also has an excellent choice of cheeses. Gamoneu is exceptionally delicious but the Queso de Cabrales is hands down, the best. This soft, creamy cheese from the valley of Cabrales is wrapped in chestnut leaves and stored in humid caves for maturation. Queso de Cabrales is certainly serious competition against the best Roqueforts, Stiltons and Gorgonzolas! Popular desserts include arroz con leche, a rich, cream-rich milk rice pudding, and Spain's best butter, called mantequilla .
